Pentecost:The Importance for Us Today and in The Future

image Today is Pentecost. For many that was a wonderful event that happened at the beginning of the church to kick things off. After the church was established and the Bible was completed than Pentecost began to fade in importance and became tantamount to the birthday of the church—at least so goes one interpretation of church history and theology.

Then along came Azusa street and churches began to call themselves ‘Pentecostal’ and hundreds of millions came to Christ through that movement around the world. Now far more than half of the Christians in the world believe that the “Gifts’ are for today and experiences similar to Pentecost are constantly re-occurring and renewing the church. In fact, it is only among Christians in the Western world that this is an issue at all.

I believe that the example of Pentecost and the early church is going to be very important for the American church as it is in the midst of change. The 120 first Church of Jerusalem Christians were a group that was continually under some form of persecution. First from the Jewish authorities and later from the Romans. It was only through the power and counsel of the Holy Spirit that the church was able to survive and spread across the entire known world in one generation.

This is also happening in the present generation. It is said that more have come to Christ in the last 40 years or so than in all the previous generations combined. If you live in Europe or even in some parts of America, the church seems to be in decline, but not so everywhere else. There is a great harvest going on in Africa and Asia, and South America also is beginning to pick it up.

In the Western world and in America, Christianity was an institution and part of the culture—but increasingly not so anymore. In the future it will be increasingly important for Western Christians to take seriously the examples of Pentecost and the early Christian church as never before—a church that thrived and grew under persecution.

Strangely enough, the example of the Chinese Christians could well be a pattern for Western churches and particularly the American church to consider in the future. They band together to create home fellowships and supporting communities in the face of governmental and cultural persecution.

They continue to grow through prophetic inspiration, healings, sign and wonders, and miracles. Note also that nearly all of their leaders are self supporting—in these difficult economic times there are churches all over America that can no longer afford a full-time pastor, particularly in small mid-western towns. This example is also currently being duplicated in India which is in the midst of incredible revival.             *Top

“God is Shaking Things Up”

Worship BG - Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

Here’s an article/message from David Ravenhill:

God is Shaking Things Up”. His thoughts and counsel really do reflect a lot of the ideas and responses that we have been posting recently about the economy and particularly the church. He identifies that the very chaotic times that we are experiencing is actually the results of God shaking everything that can be shaken. I would add—even the church.

He begins with this:

“God promised to shake everything that can be shaken, and He is not slack about keeping His promises. I don’t ever recall a time such as today, when almost everything is being shaken.”

David also is expecting like I am that Christians in America will increasingly begin to experience persecution from the dominate American culture and even the government itself:

“Another concern I have is the blatant anti-Christian attitude emerging in our country. … It wasn’t so long ago that newscasters and politicians were comparing some Christians to Islamic terrorists.

American Christians have never experienced real persecution before, but Jesus made it very clear that this would be pervasive in the Last Days. Let’s face it, in the current environment, about all it would take would be for some weird “Christian” group to attack the government to bring about a public outcry against everything Christian. I believe during our lifetime we could very well see a president, in the interest of national security, closing churches and establishing a Guantanamo Bay for “religious insurgents.” Have you forgotten what it was like right after 9/11?”

Ravenhill Concludes with this counsel:

“Perhaps the best way to prepare for what is headed our way is to begin to live as though it were already here. What I mean by that is to start focusing on the eternal, rather than the temporal; start forming quality relationships with other like-minded saints. Then when life as we have known it begins to unravel, we will be ready to meet the future as a friend rather than as an enemy to be feared.”

Some of his observations are somewhat scary and some may think rather paranoid—either that or prophetic. I believe that they are right on and the American Church must now get use to the fact that if we are going to continue to be a Biblical Christian Church, we may from now on be at odds with the dominant American culture and I fear ultimately even with a government that is suppose to provide for our ‘freedom of religion’.

I have already seen this current administration do some things which are blatantly against the constitution yet few have registered any complaints. The government has engaged in what is tantamount to ‘nationalizing’ the banks, financial institutes, and the auto industry to name a few. Legislation is before the congress to bring the energy businesses and the medical industry under government control also. This doesn’t seem to bother anyone because of the extreme economic emergency situation we are in—not only that—many are encouraging it.

It really isn’t hard for me to see the possibility of this government stretching its authority into the religious realm if future emergencies would dictate. Actually this is not all that far fetched, recently the Dept. of Homeland Security sent out a bulletin telling police and FBI to be on the lookout for right-wing groups like those who are ‘pro-life’ and supporters of Israel among other ‘hate groups’. Call me paranoid if you like.             *Top

A Las Vegas Move of God

So many go to Vegas to see cards, dice, and slot dials moving. But God and His Holy Spirit also move in places that folks never expect.

There’s a move of God happening at Central Christian Church in Las Vegas. It is a large ‘mega’ church, but 2,500 folk have come to Christ in the last few months and they recently had a baptism where they expected 500 but 1,200 got dunked instead, Praise God!

Here’s a video of the baptism celebration:

Here’s a response from the senior pastor Jud Wilhite:

"Nothing in the past 15 years of ministry prepared me for what I witnessed, I still don’t have words to adequately describe it. All I can say is, ‘Only God.’"

…"I haven’t been able to fully process it,I doubt I ever will. What I do know is that this was not about great programming, but about our great God who chose to move in people’s lives in a tremendous way, in one of the world’s least likely cities. … We are boasting about the Lord today and so thankful that we could witnesses His move."

James Goll: “The A,B,C’s of the Prophetic”

image Quote from James Goll on the Prophetic today:

You see, we must understand some basic things concerning the nature of the prophetic. Few, in fact very few, prophetic words are ever sovereign declarations that will come to pass without any conditions being met. Most prophetic words are invitations into a process of becoming. Often, the Lord is more interested in our becoming a word and not just getting, releasing or receiving a word.

The prophetic at its best is partial, progressive and conditional. That is not the fault of the prophetic person – it is the way it works biblically, historically and how it works today.

Let me run that by you one more time – the gift of prophecy is partial, progressive and conditional and the conditions are rarely revealed at that time. This is where personal responsibility takes over and each believer must search out the King’s heart for the keys to unlocking the revelation.

There is a big difference between the revelation and the manifestation! As I have said many times before, the gap between the revelation and the manifestation is called the “until clause.”

Response: Readers-what do you think? I might have worded it differently but it does sum up my experience with the prophetic in the church today.

Gallup: America is Now More Pro-Life!

Found this at Powerline. A new Gallup poll shows that Americans are now more ‘pro-life’.

In new survey just out today, Gallup finds that more Americans now consider themselves “pro-life” than “pro-choice, by a 51 percent-42 percent margin:

Response: Praise God—this is great news! Nearly every trend in the American culture has been negative for Biblical Christians in the last several years. An encouraging word for a change.            *Top

Businessman/Evangelist Expects a Revival in the US

image

David Turner (pictured, right) a Phoenix-based businessman-turned evangelist believes that a revival of miracles will soon come to America.

"I believe God is about to do an explosion in America," said Turner, who has seen thousands healed during large-scale crusades he led in India with evangelist Harry Gomes (pictured, left). "We will start seeing [healings and miracles] even with stadiums of people."

Turner is hosting the Harvest America Healing Explosion at the 14,000-seat Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix this week and hopes to see the beginnings of Revival at the 3 day conference. Come Holy Spirit!            *Top

The On-going Revival in Cuba

Provinces of Cuba

(Cuba via Wikipedia)

Strang Report: When Fidel Castro came to power in 1959, there were 89 small Assemblies of God churches in Cuba which remained until 1989, then revival came. Since then the Assemblies have grown from 12,000 members to over 500,000.

Incredibly the government authorities agreed and encouraged them to continue their growth through a house church movement in order to accommodate everyone who wants to worship. Since then it has grown to include 3,000 house cell groups and over 900 Church buildings.

Not mentioned in the article–the AOG aren’t the only Christian groups that have been experiencing incredible growth in Cuba at the same time. There are also a number of indigenous Cuban church organizations that have grown in the same way—all of them experiencing healings, diverse gifts of the Spirit, miracles, and numerous signs and wonders in the process.

It is Time to Remember Israel in Prayer

Jerusalem Old City from Mount of Olives.

(Jerusalem via Wikipedia)

For 61 years there have been 57 countries against 1 in the Middle East. For 61 years the USA has supported Israel through good times and bad, war and peace. Like everything else that is happening in the world both economically and politically everything is in flux right now—all the cards have been thrown up in the air and where they land only God knows for sure. Some are talking about an end-time scenario though I personally believe it is somewhat premature but maybe not.

From everything that I’ve read on the subject, the Obama administration is said to be far more supportive of the 57 Muslims countries than of the 1 Jewish state. The President has solicited the help of the Europeans, particularly the British, to negotiate a new 2 state solution for Palestine and Israel. Problem is, the Europeans are also far more supportive of the Muslims and look upon Israel as “the greatest threat to world peace”.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is visiting Washington next week and the word is that there will be considerable arm twisting in order to bring the Israelis around to accept a solution that the 57 Muslims countries will support.

The sticking point is Jerusalem and the Palestinian ‘right to return’.

In the secular eyes of the world, it makes total sense to force Israel to accept a solution. However, those who take the Bible serious will have a different view.

Up in the air for the first time is whether the USA will continue to support Israel regardless. It is doubtful that any Israeli administration would give up Jerusalem and a ‘right to return’ would put millions of Palestinians in the midst of Israeli territory—tantamount to the end for a Jewish state called Israel.

It really is time to pray for Israel and for the peace of Jerusalem–for Prime Minister Netanyahu, for President Obama, and for all the blessings and promises of God concerning Israel, Jerusalem, and the Jewish people to be fulfilled. Amen

Grady: “God Has Pushed a Great Big Reset Button”

Power/Reset

The Latest from J.Lee Grady:

God Has Pushed a Great Big Reset Button

Well worth reading and considering.

A lot of what he is saying here I have also been addressing the last several months. Some prophetic folks believe that God has grabbed the entire world system by the jaws and turned it upside down to position it for the very last days or as Grady says—hit a big ‘reset button’. Regardless, no matter how painful it is—God is definitely at work here. All the systems of the world have been thrown up in the air and where they land only God knows for sure.

The American church is particularly vulnerable because it was so tied to the old cultural and economic system of America that is now being tested and transformed. Change is ahead whether we want it or not, for better or worse. If the church tries to hang on to the old world system it will be changed into something that is clearly not Biblical.

Those churches that continue to be guided by the Holy Spirit and uphold Biblical teaching and principles will be transformed in a positive way—but not in the eyes of the world. The dominant American culture from now on will be increasingly critical and adversarial with those who are faithful to ‘Biblical’ Christianity.
