“When Heaven Invades Earth: A Practical Guide to a Life of Miracles”

By Bill Johnson (Shippensburg,PA: Destiny Image Pub. Inc., 2003,190 pgs.)

Bill Johnson is the senior pastor of Bethel Church (AG) of Redding, California, but more than that, he is one of those leading the charge towards true revival. ‘When Heaven Invades Earth’ is more than a clever title, this book identifies how life can really change for the better when ‘The Kingdom’ really does come into one’s life, after all our prayers asking for it.

I found myself reading the chapters slowly in order to receive the entire message. There is a lot here to consider. It is a clarion call to leave behind the ordinary and enter into a new way of thinking and a new way of life where healing and miracles are looked for and expected. It is a call for a change of world view. It is a challenge to leave the regular religious stuff behind and to really seek first the Kingdom and to really seek a closer relationship with God. To really expect the Kingdom to be manifest in power, and not merely in words.

Bill Johnson really does live and aspire to what he is talking about in his book. Several years ago I had the opportunity to pray for the sick along with Bill and several others on our ministry team. It had been a long night and midnight was closing in. A young man hobbled up to us with one leg obviously shorter than the other by three inches or so. I must admit that I had some doubt at first. Bill had him lay down and we began to pray for him. With full confidence, Bill Johnson held the young mans foot and commanded the leg to grow and it did. We kept on praying until the leg was fully extended to the same length as the other one. It was a night that I will never forget.

This book goes far beyond what one can explain in a short review, this is one of those rare life changing books that only comes along every once in a while. At least it was for me.

  1. When I first got this book I began weeping when I read about the couple in his church that invited all the homeless to their wedding.

I have read the book in bits and pieces trying to chew and discern what God is saying to me. Bill’s ministry is so far and away from other people are doing, it would be easy to try to replicate him instead of receiving what he is trying to impart.

I have listened to a bunch of his messages and I can comfortably say that he is not trying to amass followers nor set us up for a string of book purchases.

I think he genuinely wants the saints to function in the supernatural.

  2. Yes, Bill is a true man of God. I am just becoming familiar with his work here in Redding (where I live). I am hoping to have him come and pray over me-I am completely immobile, bed-ridden and house-bound. A group from Bethel’s ministry school came and prayed for me weekly last school year and it was a real blessing.

By the way, Bethel is no longer an AG church. It was not an acrimonious split, but the Bethel leadership felt the direction they were being led by the Spirit was different enough from he AG vision to warrant becoming independent. Their explanation may be found here: http://www.ibethel.org/churchlife/index.php?f=letter.html

God Bless and please pray for my complete healing and restoration.

  3. This book is so thought provoking and challenging. And it is really an amazing piece of paper. I found myself reading it very slowly as well. I wanted to crasp what God tries to teach through the words Bill wrote down. I am still struggeling with really living what I read. I am in theological seminary at the moment and it is kinda hard to seek the kingdom first in every minute of my life. It is weird, that seminary makes that even harder. 😉 But I know God placed me in that seminary and I’ll finish my studies in June 2007. I will then move to britain and will discover more of what is Gods plan for my life.

Right now I am reading Bill’s second book on this topic: “The supernatural power of a transformed mind”…
