-Lou Engle: A Vision for ‘Stadium Christianity’ and a New Awakening

Lou Engle of ‘The Call,’ a prayer movement that has gathered hundreds of thousands together all over America for conferences featuring prayer, fasting, repentance, and worship, has a new vision for revival in what he is calling ‘stadium Christianity.’ From Charisma News:

Engle is believing for what he calls “stadium Christianity,” an outbreak of revival that will bring believers to stadiums across the country to worship and experience a new power in the Holy Spirit.

His dream is to hold “The Call” in Los Angeles Memorial Stadium on April 9, 2016, on the 110th anniversary of the Azusa Street Outpouring, which kicked off the Pentecostal/Charismatic renewal in the United States.

“Can you believe with us that denominations will unite, that the races could come together, that God could make us one, as the antidote to the terrific division in our day?” Lou asks.

“Could you believe with us for ‘stadium Christianity’ where signs and wonders are breaking out and mass evangelism explodes across our country?” he continued.

Response: The enemy is sowing racial discord and violence in the major cities all across America. The newscasters and press are exacerbating the problem by giving equal time and credence to every voice and picture of discontent.

The American church holds the real answer to this mess. What if  black and white and Latino Christians all got together in unity all across America in stadiums starting with LA.?  Remember, Azusa Street was an interracial revival and provided the foundation for the Pentecostal movement which includes some of the largest black denominations and churches.

The picture of white and black Christians along with other races praying together for racial unity and revival on the 10 o’clock TV News along with signs and wonders, healings, and miracles could go along way towards healing American cities and bringing on a new awakening.               *Top

Azusa Street Centennial -Recap

There was very little press coverage for the ‘Centennial’ here in So. Cailfornia. The LA Times had one article prior to the conference, and one published on the opening day (4/25). TV coverage was limited to only a short opening day mention. I could not find any reference to the event in the OC Register (A more ‘conservative’ area newspaper). If 6 or so, gay activists happen to picket a church, all the press is there-print, radio, and TV cameras. However, 47,000+ Christians can peacefully fill the Convention Center or Colisium, and it is not news worthy. I kept looking for info. to pass on about the conference–I finally received the following email recapping the event:

Azusa Street Centennial, April 25-29, 2006 -Los Angeles CA.

  • Over 45,000 attendees
  • 113 nations
  • Over 160 workshops and general sessions
  • Over 1300 volunteers
  • 12,000 Los Angeles families impacted with food and the gospel
  • Over a thousand people saved
  • Hundreds received the Holy Spirit
  • Numerous miracles and healings
  • Dynamic worship, timely preaching, wonderful fellowship and supernatural unity!

Praise the Lord for His wonderful blessings during the recent Azusa Street Centennial celebration. The spiritual experience of a lifetime was just that for people from around the world. Not only did we celebrate the Azusa Street revival, we experienced a fresh anointing for our generation.

We are continuing to receive testimonies in our offices of changed lives and miraculous occurrences following the Centennial. Backsliders have returned to God. Young people have made fresh commitments. The sick have been healed and people have even been raised from the point of death. If you have a personal testimony of God touching your life at the Centennial then please share it with us (click here). You can also read other great accounts of God’s blessing.

Thank you so much for your participation at the Centennial. I pray that you were blessed and revived. I also look forward to hearing from you as we commit our lives to unity and revival in this new century of Pentecost. May the fire we experienced in Los Angeles blaze ever brighter around the world in the days ahead. This is our time!

‘Azusa Street’ -A Local Report

A group of young people from my home church (Vineyard CC-Laguna Niguel, CA) attended the Azusa Street Centennial. They gave a report on Sunday (April 30)Â that the ‘Azusa Street’ is alive and well, and still going. They joined thousands who filled the LA Sports Arena for a special Youth service on Saturday (April 29). The service was attended by kids of every race, coming from thousands of different locations, and representing hundreds of diverse denominations & Churches.

Before entering the Arena, they prayed for a young person on crutches, who was able to carry them in unneeded. At a break time during that day, our young folks report that Revival broke out at a ‘Starbucks’, as they prayed for those waiting in line for coffee. This of coarse, is just one local report that demonstrates that ‘Azusa Street’ continues today-still going strong after 100 years.

April 25-29, 2006 Los Angeles, California, USA

This is slated to be an historic conference & Worldwide gathering of Pentecostal/Charismatic believers commemorating and celebrating the centennial anniversary of the Azusa Street Revival. The Azusa Street Revival which began in April 1906, started a major renewal of the Church which continues today and has touched as many as 600 million believers around the World. Most Pentecostal Churches/denominations and many streams of the Charismatic Movement can trace their roots back to Azusa Street.

One of the amazing characteristics of the Azusa Street Revival was the racial mixture and harmony displayed at the meetings. Beginning in April 1906, the Revival continued meeting 24/7 with as many as 1,000 in attendance, and attracting visitors from all around the World. Pastor William Joseph Seymour, the son of former slaves, founded the church, which initially began as a small poor African-American congregation. But soon the Azusa Street Church was filled with seekers from every walk of life, rich, poor and in-between. The Holy Spirit was so strong there, that some folk literally stayed for days-many came to Christ, many were healed, and thousand of lives were changed.

Hundreds of major Christian leaders will be attending the Centennial and more than a hundred thousand are expected to participate.
